چکیده

To investigate the anisotropy of coal swelling, this study proposes an effective stress model for saturated, adsorptive fractured porous media by considering gas adsorption induced surface change on solid-fluid interface. The can be used to capture anisotropic swelling combining mechanical properties and link with permeability. Direction dependent fracture compressibility is describe evolution stress-dependent permeability behaviour. Particularly, impact considered in model. proposed models were tested against experimental results compared relevant existing available literatures. predicts that direction perpendicular bedding plane, greater than parallel plane. Coal each affected changes any directions. plane more sensitive stresses due higher compressibility. cleat could increase adsorption, especially carbon dioxide. Permeability loss significant presented provide a tool quantifying adsorption-induced behaviours.

Adsorption and strain: The CO2-induced swelling of coal

Enhanced coal bed methane recovery (ECBM) consists in injecting carbon dioxide in coal bed methane reservoirs in order to facilitate the recovery of the methane. The injected carbon dioxide gets adsorbed at the surface of the coal pores, which causes the coal to swell. This swelling in confined conditions leads to a closure of the coal reservoir cleat system, which hinders further injection. In...

Modelling anisotropic damage and permeability of mortar under dynamic loads

This paper deals with the development of a model for concrete subjected to dynamic loads. Shock waves are generated by Pulsed Arc Electro-hydraulic Discharges (PAED) in water and applied to mortar samples. A diphasic model (liquid water and vapour) is implemented in order to describe the electrical discharge and the propagation of shock waves in water. An anisotropic damage model is devised, wh...

The Effects of Gas Adsorption on Swelling, Visco-plastic Creep and Permeability of Sub-bituminous Coal

Unmineable coal is an important resource because of its potential to produce coalbed methane (CBM). CBM has grown to supply approximately 10% of US natural gas production and is becoming important worldwide as an energy source [1]. Furthermore, when CO2 is injected, it has the potential to enhance the amount of methane produced (ECBM) and to geologically sequestrate CO2 as an adsorbed phase. Th...

Anisotropic enhanced backscattering induced by anisotropic diffusion.

The enhanced backscattering cone displaying a strong anisotropy from a material with anisotropic diffusion is reported. The constructive interference of the wave is preserved in the helicity preserving polarization channel and completely lost in the nonpreserving one. The internal reflectivity at the interface modifies the width of the backscatter cone. The reflectivity coefficient is measured ...
